Closed form Capacity expression of Spatial modulation using Hypergeometric series

The spatial modulation (SM) scheme is one of the prominent techniques in a multi-input multi-output (MIMO) system that attracted major studies in 5G technology. It gives an additional spatial dimension such as an antenna index, which can be used by both signal space and spatial dimension for data transmission. In this paper, closed-form capacity expression of SM for 2 × 1 system is derived based on the hypergeometric series. Results demonstrate that closed-form capacity expression gives superior performance when compared to numerical results of SM and space-time block codes (STBC).
