Ship Targets Detection with Dual Downscaling Spectral Residual Method in SAR Image

Reliable automatic ship detection in Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image plays an important role in the surveillance of maritime activity. But, the coastal background has seriously affected the accuracy and speed of ship detection. Within this paper, we present a Dual Downscaling Spectral Residual (DDSR) method of sea-land segmentation-based spectral residual for ship detection that attempts to combine the downscaling thresholding operator, saliency computation and morphological features. For this, sea-land segmentation based on the downscaling thresholding operator and morphological features of the potential detection result is applied, which is followed by downscaling Spectral Residual detector so that the accurate detection result is obtained. Measured data illustrate that the proposed method obtain outstanding performance in ship targets detection.
