Improving Power Generation in Nigeria: The Solar and Wind Energy Option

Nigeria continues to grapple with inadequate power supply in the midst of abundant renewable and nonrenewable energy resources. This is because these resources have so far been underutilized while some have been completely ignored at least on a commercial scale. This paper proposes the harnessing of wind and solar energies to boost power generation.It also looks at the various technologies which will be needed to minimize the impact of the intermittent nature of wind and solar energy supply and their integration into the national grid. It also looks at the benefits derivable from utilizing these two renewable energy sources to generate power in an environmentally friendly manner considering the adverse climate changes being witnessed by communities across the globe and the sensitization of countries by environmentalists on the need to reduce the burning of fossil fuels
