Dynamic Behavior of the Doubly Fed Induction Generator During Three-Phase and Single-Phase Voltage Dips

In the past few years, the employ of the wind machines which use doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) has become very universal. Nevertheless, This style of wind turbines are so sensitive to grid disturbances, especially to voltage dips. The major target of this study is to illustrate the dynamic characteristic of the DFIG in the representative case of voltage dips. An actual DFIG wind turbine model was developed by using the PSCAD/EMTDC software, and simulation results have been presented. Through analysis and formula, the magnitude of the over-voltage that occurs in the rotor can be calculated as a function of the dip property (depth, instant of occurrence, and type).
