Transient stability assessment for generators and DER integration into the IEEE 9 Bus system

Within the confined capacity of transmission lines, penetrating renewable energy sources (RES) could be challenging which directly impacts the capacity of generators. Integrating RES lowers down the overall system inertia thus impacting the transient state conditions. In this research, wind turbine generator (WTG) is integrated at the point of connections (PoC) and transient stability is assessed through the fault insertion at the bus. The variations in power output from distributed energy resources (DER) needs to be regulated and, it is essential to carry out transient analysis caused in the generators so as to optimize the voltage ride through (VRT) capabilities to maintain system stability. This is achieved through the critical clearing time (CCT) and maximum & minimum rotor stability angle of the generator. In this manuscript, the study is performed on the IEEE 9 bus system is analyzed, and the simulation is performed through the ETAP software for the transient stability analysis for the generators and DER integration through the calculation of staility angle and critical clearing time.
