A Brief History of Fault Location in Transmission Lines

This article summarizes the history of the use of fault location technology on transmission lines, and various problems associated whit its commercial implementation.This article aims to review the development stages of this technology and how the approach to the problem has changed through the years. The streams of thought that have been created around this problem are analyzed, and the reasons of its use, advantages and disadvantages of the different methods and their most common application.Finally, is shown the fault location technology of recent decades and the promising development expectations that this technology brings to power systems.
