Problems of Shaft-generating Installations Implementation in the Ship Electric Power Systems

This article is devoted to the problems of shaft- generating installations (SGI) implementation in the ship electric power system (EPS) and methods for solving them. Nowadays the problem of the energy efficiency of ship's EPS is an actual issue in the ship designing and its exploitation. Due to the fact that the ship's EPS is stiff, meaning that the power supply is limited, it is necessary to look for an opportunity to implement measures to increase amount and improve quality of the generated electric energy. One of the methods of generated electric energy amount increasing by ship electric installation is introduction of SGI into the ship's EPS. Introduction of such system has as obvious advantages, such as increasing energy generation, reducing fuel consumption, as well as disadvantages, such as more complicated control, the need for system's synchronization. This article is devoted to the study of this problem.
