APolarization-Pattern Reconfigurable Antenna Based on Leakage Current Regulation

In this paper, a polarization and pattern reconfigurable antenna for 2.4 GHz WIFI Internet of Thing (IoT) application is proposed. By changing the status of the switches, the main radiation structure can be re-configured and the current distribution could be changed, accordingly. A 1/2λ slot is etched on the ground and a 1/4λ choke is placed next to the feeding point. Enabling the two structures can limit the current leakage from flowing along the edge. The proposed antenna could achieve vertical polarization or parallel polarization, forward (+x) or backward (-x) radiation by switching to different modes. For verification, the antenna is fabricated and measured. The working mechanism and the result are presented in detail. The antenna can be configured to a maximum impendence bandwidth of 30 % or a peak gain of 5.2 dBi.
