Low Sintering Temperature and Electrial Properties on Cu-doped (Bi1/2Na1/2)TiO3-based Solid Solution Ceramics

Doping effects of CuO for sintering behavior and electrical properties were investigated on (Bi
_1/2
Na
_1/2
)TiO
₃
(BNT)-based solid solution system such as 0.90(Bi
_1/2
Na
_1/2
)TiO
₃
-0.06BaTiO
₃
-0.04(Bi
_1/2
Li
_1/2
)TiO
₃
(BNLBT4-6) with an MPB composition and relatively high piezoelectric constant. As a result, the relative density of 90% or more was obtained on the CuO-doped sample sintered at 940°C. Additionally, the piezoelectric constant d33 of CuO-doped BNLBT4-6 sintered at 940°C was improved to 164 pC/N as compared with non-doped sample sintered at 1140°C. From these resutls, it was found that the addition of CuO is effective for low sintering temperature and improvement of electrical characteristics.
