Implementation of a Low-Cost Heartbeat Monitor as Part of A Larger Health Monitoring System

While the technonogy for remote monitoring of health is well-developed, a major impediment to widespread implementation is excessive cost. With this in mind, a cost-effective heart-beat monitoring system has been implemented with an Atmel Atmega 328P MCU and a pair of IR sensors as the first approach of a more complete remote monitoring system for blood pressure, blood glucose, ECG, etc. The constructed system is found to be inexpensive, and easy-to-use.
