A Review on Recent Research Directions in Device to Device Communication

In the evolution of wireless network through different generations, the increasing needs of the users are served with many new technologies. To improve the spectral efficiency, data rate, energy efficiency etc, a proximity based services, known as the device to device (D2D) communication is proposed as a feature of the next generation cellular network LTE-A and 5G. The development of D2D communication needs to overcome many challenges. The direct communication between devices are established by reusing a resource, which is being already allocated to a normal cellular link. Managing proper resource allocation, maintenance of links and the interference and power issues are the major challenges in the D2D scenario. A number of research efforts have been carried out to overcome these challenges. Managing interference is the primary concern while handling all the challenges in D2D communication and which is basically done by proper resource allocation. The latest efforts like Genetic Algorithms can provide significant contribution in resource allocation in D2D communication. This paper shows an insight into the latest research directions in D2D communication.
