Overview: High Altitude Platform Network for Disaster and Crises Application

In crises situations, cellular network infrastructure can be affected or completely destroyed. Hence the communication between end user's terminal and the terrestrials base stations may be difficult to restore. thus, involving other radio access technologies can overcome the impact of such event. For instance, satellite, play a major role to ensure earth observation and human rescue. High Altitude Platforms HAPS, can be a fundamental technology in those circumstances. HAPS have the capability to dynamically and on-demand deploy network offering users communication with other cellular and/or fixed networks not damaged by the disaster. In this paper, we propose a new heterogeneous network architecture based on HAPS backbone.
