New Radially Graded Porous Additively Manufactured Cellular Structure for Bone Implants Theoretical and Experimental Analysis

In recent years, scaffolds made up of porous biomaterial have been preferred to bulk implants because of their better compatibility with bone growth and regeneration. Also, since numerical methods are time-consuming and conducting experimental tests are expensive as well, introducing analytical relationships to predict mechanical properties of porous biomaterials is essential. A novel radially graded porous biomaterial is introduced in the current study. Mechanical properties of the proposed structure are derived and validated through an experimental test and numerical FE modeling. Elastic modulus and yield strength of different samples are derived and compared to each other. Results show the adjustability of the structure and its potential capability for use in bone replacement application.
