Hardware & Software Implementation for Real Time Computer based Fresh Subassembly Handling System of PFBR

VME bus based dual redundant fault tolerant computer based systems are used in various safety critical and safety related applications of Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR), Kalpakkam. As a case study, this paper describes the hardware and software architecture along with implementation for Fresh Subassembly handling system of PFBR, which is classified as safety related system as per plant safety classification. Various hardware diagnostics & software methodologies are detailed for the generation of failsafe output for the plant with emphasis on defense in depth philosophy.
