Electrical characterization for curing behavior of epoxy based adhesives containing silver fillers treated with several triazole surfactants

Effect of surfactants on electrical conductivity of an epoxy-based electrically conductive adhesive (ECA) was examined. 1,2,3-triazole, 1,2,3-benzotriazole surfactants were found to effectively accelerate electrical conductivity development during curing of the adhesives. By contrast, electrical conductivity development was hindered to obtain extremely high electrical resistivity when 5-carboxybenzotriazole was used as the surfactants. The impedance spectroscopy clarified that variation in charge transfer resistance between fillers during curing can be sensitively influenced by these surfactants. The molecular design of surfactants will be important for developing advanced ECAs.
