Application of Plasma in Resolution of Electromagnetic Signals

A plasma-based electromagnetic wave signal resolution model is proposed in this paper, and the modulating effect of a plasma column modulator on electromagnetic waves is introduced. The plasma is generated by radio frequency source, and the plasma frequency can be changed by adjusting the excitation power of the RF source so that the plasma generates different scattering effects on the electromagnetic wave signal. Experiments show that the plasma column can generate amplitude attenuation of 0~3dB and phase change of 0~45° for the Ku-band electromagnetic signal under the excitation of 0~500W RF power. Based on the non-linear modulating ability of plasma to the electromagnetic wave, the integrated echo signal in the radar main lobe can be processed nonlinearly, and the precise direction of multiple electromagnetic signals in the radar main lobe can be extracted through data processing and error analysis, as a result, radar imaging resolution can be improved.
