Wireless LAN Communication with Running Vehicle Access Points

In this paper, we propose a method to provide smartphone users with high speed internet access by wireless LANs whose APs are equipped in vehicles passing through the users. To achieve such high-speed access, the most recent technology, IEEE 802.11ad is employed. Considering communication quality characteristics of millimeter radio wave of 60GHz used in IEEE 802.11ad, we focused on three attributes; distance between vehicles and users, speed of vehicles and the number of passing vehicles. As a result of performance evaluations with computer simulations, the proposed method obtained better throughput than current LTE communication.
