Detection of Broken Rotor Bar Defect in Squirrel Cage Induction Machine

In this article, we will present two methods dedicated to the detection of rotor broken bars in a three-phase induction machine. These methods are based on the Power Spectral Density (PSD) and Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT) of stator current signals. To simulate the behavior of the machine in the presence of broken bar defect, a mathematical model based on multi-winding approach representing the rotor cage is adopted. An analytical study of the defect is described. The obtained simulation results allow to show the interest of these techniques.
