Guiding Attributes of Square Lattice Microstructured Optical Fibers

We elucidate guiding characteristics of modified hexagonal lattice microstructured optical fibres (MOFs) which are popularly, known as the MOFs with square lattice of air-holes (SL-MOFs) in the cladding. An alternative analytical field model is utilized to explore the radical propagation attributes of SL-MOFs. For comparison numerical results based on the finite element method are also generated for the same model. Coherent agreement between the results is achieved, which justifies the strength of our approximate method; moreover, it furnishes a swift approach for exploring the fundamental modal properties of such optical waveguides.
