Refractive Index sensing using plasmonic mode in a periodically corrugated waveguide at terahertz frequencies

In this paper, we investigate the capability of a planar plasmonic waveguide to sense the refractive index. The waveguide is made up of one dimensional array of long grooved structures which exhibit resonant modes at terahertz frequency. To examine the various sensing parameters such as dispersion properties of the fundamental mode and frequency shift in modes, we varied the refractive index of analyte in long grooved structure. We confirm numerical findings with the theoretical model comprising of long grooves filled with analyte. The present study of plasmonic waveguide sensor could be significant in developing ultrasensitive terahertz thin film sensors.
