Method for Improvement in Throughput and Network Resource Utilization in 5G

In 5G dual registration mode, a User Equipment (UE) will remain registered to Evolved Packet Core (EPC) and Fifth Generation Core Network (5GC) at the same time It is expected that the UE shares same Radio Frequency Integrated Circuit (RFIC) to access the radio network to use different set of services mapped to packet data unit (PDU) on each of the core network such as VOLTE on EPC and Data on 5GC. Single transceiver of such UEs will be shared for different services of EPC and 5GC using tune-away which will impact ongoing data session and will cause physical channel resource (PCR) wastage at EPC/5GC during the tune-away period. This paper presents techniques to improve overall PCR utilization and UE admission for an operator by sending high priority signaling Message from Network, based on UE and Core Network state, over the access which is in active state even if signaling is from other Core Network whose communication state is not active. Through extensive simulation derived from 4G and 5G paging frame and throughput calculation, the results reveal an improvement in overall PCR utilization for an operator by saving 24 RBs comparison with current scenarios and throughput improvement by at least 9%.
