Airport Runway FOD Detection System Based on 77GHz Millimeter Wave Radar Sensor

Foreign object debris (FOD), like stones and metal fasteners in the airport runway may damage aircraft. Many companies have developed relevant detection systems. However weak radar-cross section (RCS) static and dynamic targets detection is still a problem. This paper proposes time accumulation method to remove background clutter and adaptively detect weak RCS targets using two-dimensional rectangular window function. Then we propose a space-time joint estimation algorithm by introducing subarray delays to achieve high precision and high accuracy target speed and angle.
