Design and Simulation of Two-Chain Monopulse Receiver for IFF Radar Application

Modern warfare requires efficient radars that can track the moving targets. In addition to finding the location of the target, it is also important to distinguish between the friendly and enemy targets. Those radars that has an ability to detect the identity of the target are called the secondary radars. One of the application that relies on secondary radars is the Identification Friend or Foe (IFF). To implement this application a category of secondary radars, called the monopulse receiver is employed. In this work, a two chain monopulse receiver is designed for a receiving frequency of 1090MHz using Advanced Design System (ADS). The simulation results are tabulated over entire dynamic range and analysed. An overall noise figure of 1.505 and VSWR of 1.032 is achieved.
