High Performance GDI-ALU Using 10T Adder Cells

Gate diffusion input (GDI)—is a latest inventive technique that has been significant in improving the digital logic performance while incorporated in CMOS VLSI circuit design. This paper concentrates on the design and execution of 4 bit CMOS (GDI) ALU suitable for low power and high speed processing. The ALU being a core block in microprocessors, its design to enhance the operating performance has attained greater importance in today's downscaled technology. Initially, a low power 10T Full adder has been designed with GDI technique using 22nm CMOS scaling. This is one of the building blocks for implementing the functions of a 4-bit GDI-ALU operation. The design has been benchmarked with the conventional CMOS ALU and CMOS pass transistor based ALUs for substantiating the performance statistics such as power, delay and Power Delay Product (PDP). The proposed design offers a robust performance with compact architecture, low power operation with reduced propagation delay.
