IoT Enabled Ignition Interlock Device

An ignition interlock device(IID) analyzes the blood alcohol level in a driver's breath which is sampled before the ignition can be turned on for a vehicle. If the results of the BAC level breach the threshold to which the device is programmed (which varies depending on the country), the IID device prevents the ignition from turning on, by interrupting the signal from the ignition to the starter. This paper attempts to better the existing IID devices which can be of limited use, by incorporating Internet of Things application to the device, such that it's use can be extended to all vehicles in the future to prevent attempts at drunken driving. The IID device is designed to be better by incorporating features such as facial recognition, fatigue and pulse monitoring of the driver and real-time data logging of breach of threshold.
