Eye Controlled Wheel Chair

Surveys states that there are 40 persons per millions that effects with quadriplegia disease per annum. Scientists like Stephen Hawking had suffered from this disability. Independent mobility cannot be achieved under the presence of caretakers. It is difficult for the disabled people to move outside on their own due to their physical disability or unable to move like normal people. The objective of this paper is to develop a wheel chair which operates depending on the eye movements. People having quadriplegia can move their pupils, eye brows and can tilt their head. These limited movements can be used as an opportunity for controlling the movement of wheel chair in this paper. The developed model has two parts, firstly detecting the pupil's direction and, next controlling the motors that are attached to the wheel chair. The first task stated above is performed by a web camera and those images are processed by raspberry pi. The output from the raspberry pi is given to wheelchair motors. An ultra sonic sensor is attached to the wheel chair to An ultrasonic sensor is used to identify any objects in front of it and halt the moving wheel chair for a while.
