Optimal FOPID Controller for an Automobile Cruise Control System

In this paper, the design and performance analysis of Fractional Order PID (FOPID) controller for an automobile cruise control system (ACCS) is discussed. A linear version of the system is considered in the design of the proposed controller. The dominant pole placement design method along with fmincon solver is used to get the optimal control parameters. The transient response and frequency response of proposed FOPID controller are investigated and compared with the existing methods. In addition, the sensitivity analysis and disturbance rejection behavior of the system is verified for the proposed controller. Results analysis shows that the proposed controller givers preferable better values than the existing methods.
