BELBIC Load Frequency Controller Design for a Hydro-Thermal Power System

The Brain Emotional Learning Based Intelligent Controller (BELBIC) is an artificial intelligence controller based on limbic system of mammalian's brains. It has been introduced in the field of control because of its remarkable effectiveness and implementation. This paper presents a novel intelligent design method for BELBIC controller with optimal tuned parameters based on the particle swarm. Simulation results using MATLAB/Simulink Toolbox are carried out on a power system subjected to disturbances variation and parameters change in the presence of the system inherent nonlinearity. A comparison with the fuzzy PID is done under different operating conditions and parameter changes to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed designed controller. The results prove that the proposed method is very useful in controlling the load frequency control problem of the multi-area power systems.
