Survey of Communication Techniques in Smart Grids

Smart grid generally refers to a class of technology which was revealed with the aid of two-way communications techniques. These techniques allow a real-time transfer of data and information necessary for the control system to ensure the improvements related to efficiency, reliability and flexibility. This paper overviews the techniques of communications in smart grids and classifies them depending on their properties such as standard, coverage, wired, wireless, latency, ...etc. Also, we differentiate between the usage of each method, while focusing on the new technologies which have recently appeared nowadays or expected to be represented in the future.
