Design and Testing of a Multi-Band Printed Antenna for WLAN/WiMAX/LTE Applications

In this paper, the design and testing of a multi-band printed antenna is presented. The proposed structure is used as a simple approach to obtain a multi-band operation. Initially, the two semicircular arcs are implemented at the left and right part of the main patch to achieve the multi-band. Additionally, another a metallic semicircular patch attached in front of the main patch, which gives the better impedance matching for the required band. The measured resonant frequencies are generated at 3.35, 3.56, 4.74, and 5.3 GHz, which have covered the band of the wireless local area network (WLAN), worldwide interoperability of microwave access (WiMAX), and long term evolution (LTE) applications. The measured results show an impedance bandwidth (|S11| <; -10 dB) of 2.98, 2.5, 3.4, and 9.05 % at the corresponding resonant frequencies. The maximum measured peak realized gain and radiation efficiency of the designed antenna are 3.2 dBi, 82.70 % for the first resonant frequency; and 3.6 dBi, 82.5 %, for the second resonant frequency; 3.48 dBi, 81.20 % for the third resonant frequency; 4.03 dBi, 78.30 % for the fourth resonant frequency.
