Fundamentals and Future Prospects of Smart Grids: Indian Scenario

Electric power system throughout the world is changing radically and emerging with advanced information and communication technologies (ICTs). Hence, the traditional grid is finding in a new era of smart grid (SG). This paper presents the basic SG, its functionalities and also reviews the present SG technologies in the areas of generation, distribution and communication. The present scenario of Indian smart grids is presented in this paper. Henceforth, the status of current, pilot smart grid projects and the future prospects are discussed.
