Channel Allocation Optimization of Hybrid Wireless Mesh Protocol

As the number of nodes increases, the signal interference of the wireless Mesh network increases, causing the end-to-end delay of the network to increase and the throughput to decrease. The use of multiple interfaces reduces interference between nodes. The multi-channel multi-radio channel allocation strategy can reduce inter-node interference and allocate limited channel resources more reasonably. Unfortunately, although hybrid wireless mesh protocol (HWMP) supports multiple interfaces, it cannot allocate channels effectively due to fixed channel allocation. In this paper, we present a honeycomb topology that we developed to decrease the interference. We also present a method based on the depth of the routing tree where the node is located with the aim of addressing the ripple effect caused by channel switching. We discuss the proactive routing discovery of HWMP, and we describe in detail the implement of the method as well as the modification of HWMP. Finally, we report some performance evaluation results which show that the proposed solution can achieve a good throughput with a large increase of network load.
