Experience in the Use of Rewards to Help Increase Motivation and Participation of University Students

University-level students have different reasons to attend classes and obtain good grades, from the need to have a university degree, personal improvement, family obligation, among others, which gives room to a great lack of motivation. Due to this, the majority of students do not participate in their classes, mainly because of fear or because they do not find a real interest in the subject. It is proposed to use different technological tools and rewards to achieve greater motivation and generate a habit of participation in the students during the class. The application of this type of dynamics can help in the development of new learning methods and tools that allow teachers to take better control of the students' performance and facilitate the way in which they organize their classes, as well as promote students' confidence in themselves and generate the necessary motivation and development during their education. The proposed dynamic tries to encourage students according to the number of participations each one of them made along the course. The features are designed so that everyone has the same opportunities to receive a reward. We experimented with six groups and the dynamic was applied on three in order to compare the increment in participations. In general, the results showed that there is a significant increment in the groups using the dynamics compared to the rest.
