Voltage Profile Enhancement due to Large Scale Renewable Integrated System with V2G

The evolving of Electric vehicles (EVs) results not only in the increase as means of transportation but also in the utilization of vehicle batteries for grid support, which is referred to as vehicle-to-grid (V2G). However, the large scale integration of these EVs with further wind and solar power generation can lead towards voltage instability in power system network. This is due to intermittent nature of Renewable Energy Resources (RERs) and simultaneous charging/discharging of multiple EVs, affecting the voltage stability of power system network. This paper investigates a grid-interactive DERs system comprised of deep integration of RERs and EVs functioning in V2G mode. Integration of these multiple DERs requires proper assessment to overcome the voltage instabilities. To solve this problem, the approach is to utilize the optimum reactive power from inverter based DERs, to avoid intense fluctuations and improve the voltage profile of the distribution network. The optimal reactive power is obtained using a meta-heuristic Fireworks Algorithm (FWA). The FWA uses distributed information sharing mechanism and searches the space in parallel; therefore, suitable for dealing with big data problems. Simulation results also show that FWA performs well in terms of accuracy, convergence speed, and computational complexity, fulfilling the reactive power demand of the DERs integrated power system.
