An application of adjustable speed diesel power plant to frequency control of small scale power system with renewable energy sources

This paper proposes an application of the doubly-fed induction generator based adjustable speed diesel-engine power plant to frequency control of a small-scale power system including renewable power sources. This power plant can contribute to quick and flexible power balancing control under fluctuating power supplied from the renewable power sources. In addition, installation of a battery system is also considered which can assist cooperatively the power plant to augment renewable power sources in the isolated small power system.
