Optimization of iM-SIMPLE Protocol using GA in WBAN

Present era’s smart technologies and inventions have brought a drastic change in the field of medical sciences, be it in patient monitoring, telemedicine or wireless monitoring. Since safety of the patient is the major concern while implanting or placing wearable sensors on the body so utmost care should be taken during deployment of sensor nodes. The replacement of batteries is really sensitive and tedious. Time and again, researchers are trying to develop new routing protocols which are energy efficient and provide maximum network lifetime. Many protocols developed so far do not provide the optimized solution for selecting the forward node. This paper is a step in developing an optimized and advanced solution for present routing protocol iM-SIMPLE. To give improved estimation of the residual energy, packet received and dead nodes in the network after each simulation round, genetic algorithm approach has been used. As genetic algorithm is famous for providing the best solution, the fitness function used in the algorithm is same as the cost function used in implementing iM-SIMPLE protocol in order to give enhancement over the current parameters. The graphs presented in this paper show that optimized GA solution performs better than the unoptimized solution one.
