Fog offloading: Review, Research Opportunity and Challenges

Fog computing is growing from its infancy to become the new age technology transition, it has not only aligned with the principle of cloud computing but it also supports and works in tandem with all the services and features of the cloud. The new age technology demands are reduced latency, memory footprint, efficient execution, scalability, constrained power, and distributed computing. The fog has been able to fulfill all the above technology demand. This paper presents the most recent innovation in computation offloading in fog environment and its integration with IoT by highlighting the benefits and challenges in implementation. An extensively surveyed fog computing and computation offloading have been presented in detail with the study of their application. Finally the research challenges in implementing a heterogeneous computation offloading architecture and future research directions are discussed.
