FPGA Based System Integration Scheme for a Grid Connected Photovoltaic System

This paper presents development of a Quadrature Axis Hysteresis Current Controller (QAHC) for a three phase single stage grid connected PV (GCPV) system on a Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) in view of achieving simple but effective real-time implementation. The quadrature axis component of the inverter current is used to control the injected inverter current to the grid for achieving unity power factor further. Further, the inverter current is controlled to extract the maximum power from the photovoltaic (PV) modules. We present hardware implementation of measurement systems and FPGA based reconfigurable controller design in parallel programming VHSIC Hardware Description Language (VHDL) for a three phase GCPV system. Experimental results confirm the accuracy and stability of the proposed QAHC based system integration for the studied GCPV system.
