Monitoring and Notification System of the Position of a Person with Dementia Based on Internet of Things (IoT) and Google Maps

Every year cases of missing person often occur. Cases of missing person do not occur only because of abduction cases, but can also occur because someone has a disease such as dementia or senility. Usually, a person who has dementia when they are outside their home and without a family accompanying them will cause them to lose their way home. It is difficult to monitor every movement of a person with dementia because, at any time, they can leave anywhere without notice of a family member. The objective of this research is to create a system that can be used effectively in person with dementia so that patients remain safe wherever they are and are always under the supervision of the family by utilizing the system. This study aims to be able to reduce the risk of missing a person with dementia when outside the home. That is by giving information to the families of the patient if they are outside the safety zone and displaying a map of the person current location. The location of the patient will be detected using GPS in the patient and the system will send the patient's position to the smartphone of the family. Then, the system will provide information when the patient has been outside the specified safe zone distance by Haversine Formula calculation and the position of his presence through an Android notification in the form of sound and vibration. Based on the result of the tests conducted, it can be concluded that the system can determine the position of the person with dementia (user 1) while inside or outside the safe zone. Haversine formula in the application system can calculate the distance between family and people with dementia with an average distance difference of 3.02 meters. Furthermore, the system can provide notifications consisting of sounds and vibrations that can be received well by the smartphone of a family (user 2).
