Studies on fiber coupling characteristics of received beam by transmission-type holographic optical element for free-space optical communications

The use of a holographic optical element as the substitution of the fine pointing mechanism in free-space optical communications is proposed. The coupling characteristics of the transmission-type hologram to a single mode fiber is experimentally investigated to show its advantage to the use of the reflection-type.
