Determining EMG embedding and fractal dimensions and its application

An electromyogram (EMG) records a myoelectric signal sampled from the surface of skeletal muscles, a complex nonlinear system. In order to study its dynamics, analysis methods based on phase space reconstruction and fractal theory are discussed. The methods focus on determination of the embedding dimension and fractal dimension of EMG. It is shown that embedding and fractal dimensions reflect the human muscle's potential in athletics. Furthermore, by comparison, we find that both dimensions seem to have consistent experimental results. It hints that this kind of analysis may be helpful in evaluation of athletes.
