Application of IEC61850 for Communication of Distribution Gird Automation

The trend of communication technology for power distribution networks is to use IEC 61850 to achieve the interoperability and plug in and play of intelligent electronic devices (IEDs). The work progress of IEC TC57 WG17 and its TF 90-6 is reported in this paper. The information model and communication service mapping solution for the application of IEC 61850 in distribution networks proposed by TC 57 WG17 is introduced. The fast control data transmission and plug in and play methods for IEDs are proposed. The special configuration requirements for the application of IEC 61850 in the communication of power distribution networks are analyzed. This paper can provide a reference to the application of IEC 61850 in power distribution networks.
