Impact of Distributed Generation on Estimation of Exponential Load Models

This paper presents the results of a measurement-based load model estimation study, which was conducted in a distribution network with high penetration of distributed generation. The main goal of the study was to determine the impact of distributed generation on the estimation of exponential load models. The required voltage changes were induced using an on-load tap changer and measurements were taken using a power quality monitor. The exponential load models were estimated from transformer measurements (apparent load) and by combining power transformer measurement data with SCADA data (net load). Equations for conversion between apparent and net load model are presented and compared to load models estimated from measurement data.
