Reduced-Order Parametric Dynamic Phasor Modeling of Line-Commutated Rectifier Systems

Line-commutated rectifiers (LCRs) are commonly used in high power ac/dc energy conversion systems, where they are also known as the source of harmonics. Recently, a parametric dynamic phasor (PDP) modeling methodology has been proposed in the literature for efficient transient simulation of the LCR systems including harmonics. The advantage of this methodology is that it permits large simulation time steps while retaining the information of harmonics present in ac currents and voltages, which comes at a price of including the additional dynamics of desired harmonics. In this paper, a reduced-order PDP model is proposed that includes the harmonics using a set of algebraic functions, thus reducing the model dynamic order and enabling faster simulations. This new model is demonstrated to accurately track steady-state and transient response of the LCR systems, while providing higher numerical efficiency compared to the conventional detailed model and the full-order PDP model.
