Implementation of NTP Protocol in an Isolated Corporate Network

Nowadays time synchronization presents a crucial part of infrastructure in any distributed system. A request for precise time synchronization of teleprotection equipment in the transmission network of the Serbian transmission system operator (JSC EMS), was generated due to the need for more precise analysis of the devices status and events that conditioned sending of teleprotection commands, as well as their time positions. The solution had to be developed in accordance with the current state of the transmission network, as well as the required reliability and accuracy for precise analysis of teleprotection events. The greatest challenge was implementation of standard time synchronization protocol on a loaded embedded processor system. The paper presents the overview of the realization including measurement methods and results.
