System Design and Effectiveness of RFID Introduction into Large Hospitals

RFID use is spreading in hospitals, with some well-established systems designed for a variety of practical uses. In this paper, we first illustrate some of the purposes for which RFID is used, then show important things that must be considered when planning an RFID system for a hospital by introducing a practical system that uses RFID for tracking inventory. We show the results of five analyses of RFID data we have collected. Our analyses show that efficiency in the inventory control and management of surgical instruments can be increased through the use of RFID.
