A Dual-band Leaky Wave Antennas Based on Oddmode Spoof Surface Plasmon Polaritons

In this paper, an odd-mode spoof surface plasmon polaritons (SSPP)-based dual-band leaky wave antenna is investigated. The feeding structure can equally split the energy into two parts and generate odd-mode signal. Odd-mode signal is excited on a row of periodically modulated corrugated metallic strips. The odd-mode SSPP structure can realize radiation at lower frequencies. The non-uniform corrugated metallic strips can convert SSPP to radiating waves at higher frequencies. The simulated results exhibit that the proposed antenna has two operational bands. The end-fire radiation is obtained at low band (2.28 – 2.95 GHz) and frequency beam-scanning properties is realized at high band (4.7 – 5.0 GHz). Due to this antenna low profile, wideband and low cost, it could be a candidate for planar integrated communication systems.
