Linear Polyphase Equalizer Based on Adaptive IIR Filter

Modern radio telecommunications require signals with sampling rates up to several GHz. As far as maximum clock frequency is often limited, practical implementation of filters requires high parallelization degree. Using of linear equalizers, based on infinite impulse response (IIR) filters, is very challenging due to almost unsolvable data dependence issue. New structure of linear equalizer, based on IIR filter with adaptive coefficients and suitable for parallel implementation, is proposed in the paper. Algorithm for adaptation of its coefficients which guarantees filter robustness is also discussed. The efficiency of proposed approach in comparison with traditional finite impulse response (FIR) filter based equalizer is illustrated with simulations.
