Microstrip Directional Coupler with Reduced Dimensions Due to the Use of Compact Structures

The article describes the design of a microstrip directional coupler whose area is reduced by electrodynamics structures. These structures have identical characteristics with the characteristics of standard segments at the Central frequency, but have smaller dimensions. The area of the coupler operating at a Central frequency of 0.9 GHz was reduced by 78.8% relative to the area of the standard device. Also, a model of the device was made and with the help of a vector network analyzer R&S ZVA24 experimental characteristics were obtained, which with high accuracy converge with the theoretical calculations in the program NI-AWR Design Environment 14.
