Abstract:

An enzymatic biofuel cell (EBFC) chip with three dimensional, highly dense cylindrical microelectrode arrays in transient state has been studied by finite element analysis. The performance for two different designs in both horizontal and vertical positions was compared in terms of diffusion phenomenon, output potential, current density and power density of the EBFC chip in the blood artery. To improve the performance of the EBFCs in the horizontal position, the EBFC chip with holes is preferred. In the case of vertical position, optimized cell performance was obtained when each anode is surrounded by multiple cathodes.
